Our Vision
The technique called chiaroscuro in art employs the contrast between light and dark to emphasize volume and realism. Within a Christian institution, at [spaces], we seek to engage authentically with the aspects of shadow and luminosity through students’ thoughtful, literary and artistic expression.
[spaces] seeks to foster excellence in emerging writers through mentorship and encourages students to explore their vocation through writing and editing the journal.
Who We Are
[spaces] began in 2006 as an interdisciplinary and collaborative effort. The journal is produced by a team of students and supervised by TWU English faculty and professional writers. The ongoing enterprise that is [spaces] is possible through an endowment that was made in 2009. The journal seeks to promote creative development in the community by providing a space for artistic discourse. Each year, in February/March, [spaces] hosts a launch party to mark the release of the journal, inviting the TWU and broader community to celebrate with us. For fifteen years, [spaces] has produced one print journal annually, though in 2021 there was no journal due to COVID. Now, with a new focus and greater determination, [spaces] will publish poetry, prose, and visual artwork in a new journal.
